Principal's Message

2018

Dear Parents and Families,

I hope that you have had a relaxing and wonderful summer.  We have been busy getting this amazing new building ready for your children on Aug. 16th.  I am honored to be appointed the Principal of this 21st Century facility.   Sanford Elementary School has been built to serve children in all of the ways that you can imagine; from the bright colors, to the student’s friendly collaboration and learning spaces, to the unique use of technology.  I know you will be thrilled to have your children attend Bob and Lola Sanford Elementary. We are starting this year with a motto “Anchored in tradition, Sailing to the future”.  You will see this theme throughout our school this year.  We strongly believe that starting a new school is about keeping what is great about the traditions of the previous school and moving forward into the future.  You will see that Partin Elementary and Sanford Elementary are strongly aligned in what they teach and plan throughout the year.  We may do things at different times to share the resources, but we will do the same activities for the children to stay consistent.  Both schools will go to Austin in 4th grade, both schools will have a Booster-thon, and both school will have Book-fairs.

I would like to thank you for sharing your children with us at Sanford.  I look forward to working with the highly qualified and dedicated staff members to provide the best possible educational programs for our children.  Please welcome familiar faces from Partin (Van Alstyne Elementary) and some new faces:

Lauren Benner at 1st grade, Leslie Gartman has moved to 2nd Grade, Mallory Griffin at 4th Grade, Sarah Coleman has moved to 4th Grade, Tonya Martin has moved to 4th Grade, Jordan Barnes in PE, Mary Foster as Counselor, Amy Fletcher as Receptionist, Connie, Williams as Librarian, Lisa Harrelson as Assistant Principal.

We also have several new instructional aides this year: Shannon Connor, Sara McClain

During our first few weeks we will work out the bugs with drop off and dismissal as we really learn this building’s uniqueness.  I am sure that there will be other things we will work through like cafeteria protocols and playground behavior.  I am passionate about education and kids and know that we, (the staff, parents, and community members) can work together to provide a rich educational experience that will continue to make our school better every day.  I am very excited to give back to the kids and the community to continue to build on the traditions of a Premier School.

My greatest initiate is to provide the leadership that will facilitate a school environment that continues to implement best practice teaching strategies while using instruction to meet the needs of all learners.   I also hope to provide students with a safe, consistent environment that focuses on positive behavior.  I believe that we must continue to provide an educational program that is academically challenging, and engages each student by linking the curriculum to previous knowledge and experiences.

Parents, teachers, support staff, and administration all have an important role to facilitate and encourage our children to take charge of their education by becoming active learners.  Through a close partnership with everyone associated with Sanford Elementary School, I am confident that we will make our school a Premier School and even better place for our students to learn and grow.

Again, it is truly an honor to serve the children, families and staff members of Sanford Elementary School.  I look forward to an awesome school year.

Respectfully,

Sherry Stillman
