Van Alstyne ISD
Bob & Lola Sanford Elementary
Parent & Family Engagement Policy
During each school year, we will have at least two Family nights. These nights will focus on various learning areas: reading, writing, math, social studies and/or science. Students attend with their parent(s) and both are invited to participate in the activities. Parents will receive helpful learning tips and activities to assist their children so they succeed in school.
An introduction and invitation for parent involvement is offered by staff and PTO during Meet-the-Teacher night, the first day of school, and open house, as well as throughout the school year to encourage parents and community members to be actively involved.
We provide translators/ interpreters at all meetings and activities if requested to assist parents with understanding their student’s progress.
During our Annual Open House in the fall, parents are provided with information regarding campus and district accountability ratings, scoring, the testing process, student preparation, data, trends and results from the previous spring STAAR and TELPAS.
Parents may receive other assessment reports throughout the year that inform them on their child’s progress towards their established goals. Each individual classroom has its own method of utilizing parent support depending on the needs of that particular classroom. Parent/Community volunteers are welcome (after a background check) at Sanford Elementary.
Sanford Elementary, and Van Alstyne ISD, strive in many ways to communicate with parents and ensure they are informed of school news and activities by utilizing various methods of social media, school and district wide SMS messaging, email and phone calls, newsletters, and an up to date website. Knowledge is power!
Please call the office and inquire about opportunities to get involved at Sanford Elementary!
