Hello! Welcome to my page! My name is Tonya Martin. I received my degrees in Elementary and Special Education from the University of North Texas.

 

I have lived in Van Alstyne for over 20 years. I love love love this small town with a BIG heart. I have raised my amazing daughter here. She is currently getting her college degree at University of Mississippi in Oxford. I am so proud of her!

 

I have been teaching in Van Alstyne since 2005. Before that, I taught for 14 years in Garland, TX. I  have taught 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade. People always ask me which grade I like best...and seriously...each grade has something so special about it that it's hard to pick! The one thing I've always done, regardless of the grade I was teaching, is teach reading! I love reading. It's my passion. It's the foundation for all subjects. It can take you to places you'll never go! If I could say anything to a new mom or dad, it would be to read, read, read to your children as soon as they are born and continue it until...they are reading chapter books on their own. Then, read what they are reading and talk about it!! 

 

 I am the Reading Intervention teacher for Sanford Elementary. I help those students who are struggling with on-level reading. My love for kids and reading started when I was a child myself.
